2015 Cabernet Franc Lot #177
Every year the Napa Valley Vintner’s Association puts on an event called Premiere Napa Valley. The idea is to have the participating wineries create one very special wine and then auction that wine off to the trade (restaurants & fine wine shops. It is not open to the public). The proceeds go local Napa Valley charities. The big wineries mostly do twenty case lots, medium size wineries tend to do a ten case lot and some of the smaller wineries (like Canard) do a five cases lot. That’s 60 bottles. In 2015 our Premiere Napa Valley Lot #177 was a very special French oak barrel of 100% Cabernet Franc. We bottled the remaining 18 cases left and have held on to those bottles for a wine club only exclusive release. This is Cabernet Franc in its purest form. It spent two years in barrel and another 8 years in bottle and is just hitting its drinking window now. It could easily cellar for another 7 or 8 years. Luscious notes of red raspberry, black current and baking spices on the nose. The palate is enveloped with a rich mouthfeel and elegant tannin structure. Notes of red plum, violets and this beautiful minerality dance on your tongue as the wine slowly fades into this long, dry classic Cab Franc finish.
